What is a Home Fellowship Group?

Home Fellowship Groups are the primary place where you are known and cared for at Cornerstone. It is within these small communities of 8-12 people that Christians can build personal relationships and practice applying the gospel to their lives. It is here that a person’s basic needs are met for spiritual, physical, and emotional support in a very intentional and loving way.

Home Fellowship Groups meet in homes throughout Sarasota and Bradenton, and they are led by trained lay-leaders from the congregation who receive continued oversight and support from our pastoral staff. Groups generally meet two to four times a month for worship, bible study, fellowship and prayer. Many groups also participate in service projects or social events, in place of a regular meeting.

You are welcome to any one of our many groups at any time of the year.

Why Should I Get Involved With a Home Fellowship Group?

Home Fellowship Groups are important for at least two reasons. First, these groups provide sanctuary from the pressures and anxieties of life and facilitate the formation of new friendships. Fellowship groups are places where we can be revitalized and strengthened as we seek to reflect the love of Jesus Christ in the world. As God made us for community, we need fellow believers to help us apply the gospel to our lives. Our hope is that everyone who attends our church will be involved in a Home Fellowship Group.

Second, we believe that Christ calls us to enter into life together as His people.  This means that we are called to not merely spend 2 hours together every weekend, but we are called to get into the beauty and messiness of life together.  It is in these deeper relationships that we will be able to serve and minister to one another. And as we serve and learn together in the context of community, we believe that spiritual growth takes place.  As God made us for community, we need fellow believers to help us apply the gospel to our lives.

Our hope is that everyone who attends our church will be involved in a Fellowship Group.

How Do I Find A Group?

Home Fellowship Group leaders are trained to openly invite and welcome new visitors to their Home Groups. Moreover, visitors are encouraged to check out several groups before they commit to one, so there is no pressure to commit the first week. The easiest way to find a group would be to visit a Community Group that is in your geographical area, since you will meet people who live near you. You can find a list at www.onthecorner.org. If that sounds too intimidating, just call or email your information to the church office, and we will do our best to help you.
